This blog entry will announce new members who have joined the club and give a short profile. If you know someone who is a potential member, please encourage them to join, or send the contact information to tennis@geneseevolley.com so we can follow up!
Brtiney Phillips of Dansville has joined the club as a junior member. Britney lives in Dansville where she is a 2006 graduate of Dansville Central where she played on the tennis team. She is interested in joining the Marines in the near future!
Dana Minton of Livonia has joined the club. Dana worked at a tennis club while going to college in Georgia. She is employed by SUNY Geneseo and is married to SUNY Geneseo basketball coach Steve Minton. They have two children: Maddux, 11 and Audrey, 9.
Pat O’Leary of Geneseo has joined the club. Pat is a reading specialist at Livonia Central School who will be retiring at the end of this school year in June.
Al Krotz of Dalton has joined the club. Al is retired from Hilton Central School where he served as the tennis coach for 35 years!
Jim Chen of Geneseo has joined the club for the 2010 season. Jim is a legend in the local tennis community where he has organized local play at the college for many years. He currently serves as head coach of the SUNY Champion Geneseo Womens Tennis team.
Bob Begg of Geneseo has joined the club for 2010 and will begin playing in the Fall Doubles League. Bob is a retired History teacher from Dansville Central School. His wife Nancy Laemlein was an avid player but can no longer play due to injuries.
Ed Gillin has joined the club. Ed is an English professor at SUNY Geneseo and lives in Livonia with his wife Mary who does not play.
The club had its first “walk-on” members on July 8, 2009 when Joe and Maggie Carlson noticed the new Genesee Volley sign on the gate and wandered down the driveway to investigate. Joe is an avid tennis player (USTA ranking of 4.0) and one of the leaders of a new club in Amelia Island, Florida where they recently built 5 Har-Tru courts. The couple spend 1o weeks of each summer at Loon Lake in Steuben County and will now be commuting regularly to Geneseo to play at the Volley Club!
The family of Melanie Blood and Jonathan Kruger of Geneseo have joined the club. They have two children Alex Kruger (8) and Miranda Blood (6) who have never played the game but may join the Quick Start Tennis program.
Jon and Bee Perkins of Geneseo have joined the club. They are transplants from England who have built a new home on the Avon Road. Bee is eager to improve her tennis skills and play lots of tennis. Jon less so.
The Ryan Chenevert family of Geneseo has joined. Ryan’s wife Saleen gave him the membership for Father’s Day after the couple’s two older children Andre, 7, and Brigitte, 5, participated in the QST workshop at Highland park.
Patti Hudak of Livonia has joined the club. She helps her husband Bob represents the Vitazyme line of natural plant growth stimulators and is very interested in nutrition. The couple have two athletic sons, Jeremy and Tristan who were three sport athletes at Livonia, but do not play tennis.
Tom Nichols of Mt. Morris has joined the club. He and his wife Nicole have two young children. Nicole age 4 and Tom Jr. age 3. Tom has already played one Winter Warrior match and can’t wait for the Spring Twilight league to start. He has been receiving instruction from club member Dave Missel in the Mt. Morris Recreational program.
The Williams family of Livonia has now joined the club. Scott and Carol and their two children Alex, a sophomore who plays #1 at Livonia High School and Mandy, a sophomore at Elmira College. Scott is a Professor at RIT and Carol is a retired swim coach and a current yoga instructor and organic gardener.
Maggie Cashman of Geneseo has joined the club as a full tennis member. She has her own executive recruiting business and is married to SUNY Geneseo psychology professor Michael Ripinski, who does not play–yet! Maggie comes from a tennis-playing family in Minnesota and is looking forward to regaining her youthful form.
Other new members include Mike and Miriam Dabramo of Warner Road in Geneseo. They look forward to playing next year with their daughter Liz. Mike is a long-time squash player and Miriam is the sister of member Rock Castor.
Another new family joining is Peg and Scott Proctor of Livonia. They are retired and recently moved to the area from Webster. They are looking forward to meeting other tennis players. Peg is a former high school tennis coach who has been sidelined for a few years due to a arm injury. There son Matt, who is 27, lives in Denver and may play some family tennis when he is in town.
Also joining are John and Mary Kay Yanik of LeRoy. Mary Lou is an attorney formerly in the Livingston County Public Defenders Office and now practicing at 3134 Geneseo Road, Mount Morris. Both John and Mary Kay describe themselves as “average” tennis players, but say their son, Dan, age 21, is a very good player.
Also joining is Nick Waddy of Geneseo. Nick played at Geneseo Central where he graduated in 1992. He is currently a professor of History and Political Science at Alfred State College.
Dennis Canary of Rochester has also joined the club. Dennis is an accountant at the firm of Ladelfa, Schoder and Walker in Mt. Morris. He has an avid tennis player with a NTRP rating of 4.0. His partner Anna Bowne also plays.
